The thing that surprises me is that there are some really big countries in the map. I think the reason that most of them are like that is each of the countries development.
What do you think the artists main point was in creating a map that represented this type of information?
I think their main points are that hunger of a country really matters on its development and to raise awareness on this topic. I kind of think he made this picture for raising awareness with some humour. The countries which have many hungry people are shown as really fat, chubby countries and the countries which have less hungry people are shown as really skiny counrties.
Stat 1: The world population goes up by 3 in 1 second and then goes down by 1 in thenext second. I like this because it tells us that there are more people given birth to than dying.
Stat 2: The population growth today is only half of the amount of babies born today. This is interesting because at this rate the population of the world can grow really fast.

The thing that surprises me on the map is the contrast. There is those really big areas like India and West and South Africa where there are so many people who go hungry and there Europe, Japan and Canada looking like pieces of string. I think that the countries' size partly depend on their development, but not completely because USA is very developed and there are still people who go hungry there. I think the the map also depends on how close they are at reaching the Millennium development
goals.
What do you think the artists main point was in creating a map that represented this type of information?
Their main points were to raise awareness about hunger and showing the difference between developed countries and developing countries. Most developed countries very stringy and thin and the developing Asian countries are very big. South America seems to be between the two because it is neither very big nor very small.
Stat 1: Net population growth for today - 72, 100- Speed: about 3 per seconds.
This stat shows the world populations growth today. What I find interesting is that the population growth increases so much. That number may not seem very big but that it is only the number in the morning and it can triple in the evening. Also, this number is only for today so in a week or even a year, the population increases so much.
Stat 2: Deaths caused by alcohol this year - 361, 795- Speed: about 1 per 5 sec.
This stat shows the number of people that have died because of alcohol this year. I find this number interesting because so many people die because of alcohol. I think that alcohol is a killer.

i think that the point is that the country with more land seem to be smaller and the countrys that hav a larger population and less land has more people starving
one of th most scary staisics is the number of undernourished people in the world right now the number goes up every second also anthor one that was interesting was the number of dolars spent on wieght lost programs in the usa becouse the numbers go up in less then a second which is so ironic that some people in the world are over nourish while others are under nourished.

I think that reason the artist created this map was to show how countries are so different in the amount of hungry people they have it also raises awareness about the problem of hunger and poverty.

State 1: Net population growth for today, this means the birth so far today minus the deaths so far today getting how much the world population is rising. I choose this because i found it interesting how even though your taking people away because of deaths the number is still raising quit steadily every minute, showing that there are a lot more births then deaths , this could be a problem in the feature because it could mean over population. State2: Births and deaths this year, This is the amount of deaths and the births so far this year. I think these to are interesting because there are about half as many deaths as there are births this again is the problem of over population in the future.

What surprises me about this map is the shape of the countries. For example, there are so many people hungry in large areas like Africa or Europe and there are so many people who are not hungry in tiny small areas. This might be because each of the country's development changes and also because the people can't control the big area that they have. However, USA is different because it has a large area and good development.
2. What do you think the artists main point was in creating a map that represented thistype of information?
I think that the main points to show this map is to let people know how each of the countries are living in hunger. They wanted to show the difference and raise awareness.

I got this statistic fact interesting because so many people have no access to water while I have access to water everyday.

I found this fact interesting because many people smoke when they know that cigarettes are bad for their health.

I think it is surprising how some countries are smaller then a curtain country but still has more people who are suffering from hunger because of the wealth of the country and how developed it is. However some large countries like the US have more hungry people because the actual size of the country is very big.

I think these people create these type of maps to show that more than half of the people in this world are suffering from hunger and they are trying to spread awareness.

* I think it is interesting that the no. of computers sold this year is more then 2 times the amount of bycicles and cars sold. Even if we add those 2 together it still wont reach up to the amount of computers. I find this interesting because computers dont need to be re-bought so much, and cars dont either but even if you add cars and bikes together it still wont add upto the amount of computers.
*I also think the amount of emails sent today was very interesting. I knew that many people use emails with their computers and mobiles but I did not think there were so many going on at one day because every second 1,000,000 emails are sent

Stat 1: Deaths related to water diseases, I found this interesting because people around the world are dying from drinking bad water, and I have access to safe water around the clock! People around the world are also wasting water which the people in undeveloped countries would die for!
Stat 2: people without access to safe drinking water, I found this interesting because I have safe drinking water around the clock and these people have to drink dirty water to stay alive and so much of the safe drinking water is wasted.

The thing that superised me the most was about how different the size was comparing to asia, Africa (developing) and America , Europe (developed). The developed countries the size was like lines and for the un/developing countries the sizes were huge!

What surprises me about the world map is the big differences in some countries. India is incredibly huge where as North America is quite small. The country that surprised me the most was India because on the map it looked around 5 times bigger than its usual size on a normal map.

I think the artist’s main point in creating this map was to raise awareness about hunger and poverty. I think he also wanted to show others this map because it might surprise them more to look at this kind of map instead of just the numbers about hunger and poverty.

1. Net population growth for today. This means starting from the beginning of today, the amount of births minus deaths. This was interesting because it shows us that the population is growing since there are more births than deaths. If the population kept growing like this, in many years it could lead to over population.
2. Tons of produced food this year. This is interesting because there is so many tons of food being produced this year and there are so many people starving this year. If all the tons of food was distributed fairly amongst everybody then a big proportion of the hungry could get some food and not be starving.

I think that the objective of the artist is to show that some countries really need help for their needs and that they don't want people to be treated unfairly which is happening in countries in africa.
Fact 1: The worlds population increases by 3 in every second and then decreases by 1 in the next second. This is a good thing because there a re more people surviving than dying.

The artist made it very clear that there are places where there are not a lot of hungry people are some places like India that has a lot of hungry people. The thing which surprised me was that some country which is small in the reality just became big in size which means it has a lot of hungry people. And only the developing countries got bigger none of the develop counties size got bigger only smaller for example the United States just became the size of Australia in reality. And India is now the size of Africa.
What do you think the artist’s main point was in creating a map that represented this type of information?
I think the artist main point was just to raise awareness about hunger, poverty and countries which needs more help than others. Also he could create it to help analyze and see which country is develop or developing and know which one needs help, and what could be done to help these people in the world.
Discuss two different stats that you think are interesting and explain why?
Stats1: Species the gone extinct this year – 28695. This really shocked me because in only 3 months 28695 species of animal had died of and if this keeps on happen I think it is going to be a really bad impact on earth because as you if this continues the number of species extinct will increase in different years ie. 3 month 28695 dies – 10 years later- 3 month 35000 species dies. This could be because as you know the population will increase and the food chain.
Stat2: People who died of hunger today- 13866 that is a really high number because there are about 83,144 people who died today which means the 1/8 people die each day is because of hunger.

I was really surprised to see the amount of poverty in Asia (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh etc). I know that most of the countries in Asia are developing countries but still to see the poverty that exists there makes you feel sad.
Then, I looked at USA to see the poverty that exists there and I saw a huge difference in shape and size. USA is shaped like tiny lines, going in different directions showing minimum poverty and in countries like India it is shaped like a huge circle.
What do you think the artists main point was in creating a map that represented this type of information?
The main point of this map was to make people in developed countries realise how many problems are there in other developing countries such as Africa, Asia etc where poverty can lead to hunger and create other problems like terrorism, diseases, and an unsafe environment.
I also think that there should be more ways like the world hunger map to help raise awareness, so that the population in developing and underdeveloped countries is stable and organisations can achieve the Millennium Development Goals by the dead line.

What surprises me was how big the shapes of the country in Asia were. Most countries in Asia are developing countries. However, there is a Huge different between the size of countries in Asia, Europe and America. America is a very thin shape which shows that there aren't many people going to bed hungry. This shows that America is developed country. The other thing which surprised me was that the Northern part of Africa has less people amount of people starving than some parts in Asia because i thought that Africa would be in a more bigger shape that Asia.
What do you think the artists main point was in creating a map that represented this type of information?
I think that the main point of this map is to show where poverty is happening and making people be aware of this situation so that they can fix this problem and know where to. The other reason might be to make people start to realize that there are things like this going on around them or where they live.
Stat 1: The death rate per year goes up by one every single this shocked me because I never realized how many people actually dies. The other reason it shocked me was, even when we are sitting down and relaxing every second when we don't do anything one person dies.
Stat 2: The other thing which shocked me was the amount of cars produced a year because the number rises by one ever second. This shocked me because I didn't know why people had to produce lots of cars when most people already have more than 1 car. So producing more cars wouldn't make them useful.

It suprised me a lot that whole South Amerika could fit about 4 or 5 times into India.
What do you think the artists main point was in creating a map that represented this type of information?
I think the artist just wanted to show where the food is needed and that only because a country is really big, it doesn´t always mean that they have more people and that they can´t handle giving food to everybody.
Stat 1: One thing that shocked me was how many days we will still have oil. 15,605 days might sound like a lot, but it is only about 42 years and 9 months, which means that our generation and maybe also our parents will still be alive.
Stat 2: The other fact that I thought was interesting was that the average temperature on earth keeps going higher, even if the change is very small (every two seconds it rises by 0.000000001) it makes a change that we will all notice after a time. Now the average temperature is at 14.554640740

It suprizes me that a lot of Asia is filled with hungry poeple compared with America which means that Asia has a lot of underdeveloped countries.

I think that the artist is trying to show other people that there is a lot of people in the world which are hungry so that people would raise more awarness. The artist is also showing the places that need help around the world.

ReplyDeleteThe thing that surprises me about the world map is that India is really big. I thought that Africa might be slightly bigger but it’s smaller than I expected. I was surprised to see that Asia has the most of the hungry people and most of them are from India and China. Even though Russia is rally big it is almost invisible in the map. I was surprised to see that only the developed countries have gotten smaller not the developing one.
I thing that the artist’s main point to create a map that represents this type of information is because it is more eye catching. Everyone knows how a real map looks like but when they see one that is totally deformed they get attracted to it because of their curiosity of why it would be like that. If the artist would have just written an essay about this stuff and send it around nobody would have read it and the artist wouldn’t have completed his goal to spread awareness about this topic. Another reason the artist would draw the map like this is that this map shows the information really well and it is pretty self-explanatory when all that is written is that each country is sized according to the hungry people in it. he drew a map and did not write a list or an essay because just a picture/map could explain a lot about country.
The 2 facts I find interesting are:
1. A fact that I found interesting was the amount of deaths this year. I was interested because I thought that there has been only 2 and a half months since the year started and there are already more than 12 million people have died. By this rate by the end of the year more than half a billion people would die. This is not a number to be proud of and I think some people are doing what they can to prevent it but not everybody is doing what they can.
2. Another fact that I found interesting was the net population growth for today. The net population growth for today is the people born today minus the people that died today. Even though there are so many people dying in the world because of various problems there are still more people coming into the world. This shows that the birth rate in the world is higher than the death rate. That’s why our population grows and that’s why in the developing countries all the jobs are taken. Today there were more than 2 hundred thousand people more people in the world than yesterday. This means by each year our population will increase by 73 million people.

ReplyDelete1. I am surprised how how little people are starving in America and Canada, and i am also surprised about how MANY people are starving in Asia. Africa is known to have very poor people, and they are all starving, but it is not as big as i thought it would be....
2. I think that the artist made this because he wants to show the world how serious this problem is, how every 3 seconds someone die of starvation. He wants to express to the world that they should help these people.
Stat 1: I think that how our population is growing atleast by 2 each second is quite interesting. If we have too many people on earth, that means that we won't be as organized, we wouldn't have enough food, and all of us would end up dying from starvation etc.
Stat 2: The second thing i found interesting was that how earth Travels atleast 20KM each second and how we don't feel any movement at all. If the earth was going that fast, wouldn't that mean we'd be flying everywhere due to the earth traveling at such high speeds. We should atleast feel the earth rotating and moving around, but we actually dont...

ReplyDeleteI really surprised by how big India is, it's almost as big as the whole of Africa, i thought that Africa would be the biggest out of all the continents.
I think the main idea of this map is to show which countries need our help, it also shows it in a very unique way that you know which country has the most hungry people right when you look at it. It's different to most other maps which show the statistic with different colours.
Stat 1: for every 2 babies born one person dies.
The amount of people that were born this year and today is double the deaths. This shows the growing population, but with growing population means more demand for resources and land.
Stat 2: The amount of email sent every seconds also amazes me. the number just keep going up and now it's at about 220 billion email. That shows how many people have computers. Well 220 billion is more than the world population, that means that some people must be sending hundreds and thousands of email every day.

I think the artist made this map is to convey the message that all the countries need our help. He is trying to show that develop countries like America need to help others like the MDG people are trying to do.
The economy is very surprising to me. I mean we have very little resources to process but economy manage to stil rapidly increase.
I'm also surprised at how many books are being produced. People are not reading anymore because money is being spent on video games, computers and cell phones etc.

ReplyDelete1. Firstly, what surprises me is how one side of the map is WAY bigger(or you could say fatter)than the other part of the map. Africa is way smaller than I thought it would be, I thought Africa and Asia would be the same-ish size. This shocked me ALOT.I thought this because I see many advertisments with small African kids that look they are starving and dying (this scares me).
2. I think that the map was created by the artist to bring awearness on how many people went to bed hungry through a creative way.
3. I thought that the amount of cigarettes smoked in a day was amazing but dredful! Because most people end up spending ALOT of money on these things and they end up broke because of either the medical bills and/or the cigarettes bills! I dont like the things.
I also thought the amount of children under age of 5 dying this year was horrible and sad. I would hate to be one of the mothers. I just cant help feeling that these children might have been albe to survive if someone had spent their money on a decent hospital instead of wasting their money on cigarettes or illegal drugs.
